Am 7. Mai fanden in Haßfurt die Süddeutschen Gedächtnismeisterschaften statt. Da die letzte Austragung schon fast vier Jahre zurücklag, freuten wir uns ganz besonders über die insgesamt 10 Teilnehmer in den Altersklassen der Kinder, Junioren und Erwachsene, die allesamt zum ersten Mal an einer Gedächtnismeisterschaft teilnahmen.
Parallel dazu trafen sich am 6. und 7. Mai acht Sportler aus sechs Ländern und kämpften um den Titel bei der 2022 MemoryXL Open.
Bei den Erwachsenen schon mit der ersten Teilnahme Süddeutsche Gedächtnismeisterin geworden zu sein, hat Antje Hubacz aus München geschafft. Sie setzte sich mit einer sehr gleichmäßig starken Leistung und 982 Punkten gegen Lokalmatador Thomas Becker (278 Punkte) durch. Detaillierte Ergebnisse sind hier, auf Memocamp und auch auf der IAM-Seite zu finden.
Mit 6 Teilnehmern gab es bei den Kindern nicht nur das stärkste Feld, sondern auch hauchdünne Entscheidungen. Erst im zweiten Durchgang der letzten Disziplin “Speed Cards” überholte Paulina Gumpert (856 Punkte) nach einem Kopf-an-Kopf-Rennen noch Sina Pieroth (838 Punkte), um Süddeutsche Kinder-Gedächtnismeisterin zu werden. Auf Platz 3 landete Lars Wiesneth mit 690 Punkten.
Ähnlich spannend wäre es fast auch bei den Junioren fast geworden. Hier holte sich Elisaweta Kunz mit 626 Punkten den zweiten Platz. Neue Süddeutsche Junioren-Gedächtnismeisterin ist Hannah Hüttner mit 768 Punkten.
Die Ergebnisse der Kinder und Junioren können hier, auf Memocamp (Kinder, Junioren) sowie der offiziellen Statistik-Seite der IAM gefunden werden.
Es darf nun gespannt auf die Ergebnisse aus Norddeutschland in knapp zwei Wochen gewartet werden. Die nationalen Titelkämpfe versprechen dann sehr spannend zu werden.
Das hohe Niveau bei der MemoryXL Open zeigte sich nicht nur an den starken Gesamt-Punktzahlen, sondern auch an den insgesamt 19 neuen nationalen Rekorden! So gab es in jeder Disziplin mindestens einen neuen nationalen Rekord, und es wurden Bestwerte für fünf der sechs teilnehmenden Nationen erzielt.
Lars Christiansen merkte sich 209 Bilder in 5 Minuten, stellte somit einen neuen dänischen Rekord auf und landete mit insgesamt 3294 Punkten auf Platz 6. Davor reihten sich Céline de Luca (3420 Punkte) mit 6 belgischen Rekorden und Guillaume Petit-Jean (4444 Punkte) mit 2 französischen Rekorden auf den Plätzen 5 und 4 ein. MemoryXL-Mitglied Susanne Hippauf schafft zwar keinen neuen deutschen Rekord aufzustellen, belegte aber mit 4485 Punkten einen Podestplatz.
Vor ihr gab es einen denkbar engen Zweikampf um den Titel. Vor der letzten Disziplin lag Emanuele Regnani in Führung und hatte bereits mit 55 Namen in 5 Minuten einen neuen italienischen Rekord aufgestellt. Doch in der letzten Disziplin, den “Speed Cards”, memorierte Orkhan Ibadov ein Kartenspiel in nur 32,16 Sekunden, stellte damit seinen neunten aserbaidschanischen Rekord in diesem Turnier auf und holte sich mit 5735 Punkten und nur 22 Punkten Vorsprung den ersten Platz.

On 6-7 May 2022, the 2022 MemoryXL Open took place in Haßfurt. With eight participants from six countries, it has been a very international field of competitors.
The high level of the competition can not only be read off the overall points, but is also represented by the 19 new national records! In every discipline, there was at least one new national record, and there have been new records for five of the six competing nations.
Lars Christiansen memorized 209 images in 5 minutes, reached a new Danish record and achieved rank 6 with an overall score of 3294 points. Ahead of him, Céline de Luca (3420 points) with 6 Belgian records and Guillaume Petit-Jean (4444 points) with 2 French records finished 5th and 4th, respectively. MemoryXL member Susanne Hippauf did not succeed to break a national record, but she reached the podium with 4485 points.
At the top, there has been an intense race for the title. Before the last discipline, Emanuele Regnani had the lead and has already scored an Italian record with 55 names in 5 minutes. But, in the last discipline, the “Speed Cards”, Orkhan Ibadov memorized a pack of 52 cards in only 32.16 seconds, scored his ninth Azerbaijani record in this tournament and reached the first place with 5735 points, only 22 points ahead of Emanuele.

Parallel to the 2022 MemoryXL Open, there has been the South German Memory Championship with 10 newcomers, 6 of them in the kids and 2 in the junior category. We are thankful for all the hard work of our memory teachers to share the memory techniques and to shape the next generation of memory athletes.

This past weekend, 6-7 May 2022, we gathered together in Haßfurt to take part in the MemoryXL Open. At our arrival, the Regiomontanus Gymnasium welcomed us with its ample spaces, colors, and resources. We were kindly provided with all the necessary tools, so that we could channel all our energies into performing at our best, including food and, most importantly, coffee!
The competition lasted two days and featured participants from six different countries! We began with the hardest disciplines, after which the first day ended with a still open ranking, leaving unclear, and therefore stimulating, who would go on to win. The next day, the situation evolved with a clearer and clearer emergence of two main competing clusters: the first and second place, and the third and fourth. Discipline after discipline, the competitors in these groups kept alternating in ranking, leaving no room for clear predictions. From these participants’ point of view, such situation was clearly a source of pressure, but simultaneously the whole point of competing, the spark adding flavour to the event. The training of the previous months and the emotions of the moment, in fact, combined to result in competitors breaking personal and even national records, in the effort to achieve the best position possible in the final ranking.
The deciding discipline, as often happens, was the last one: Speed Cards. In the race for the podium, the competition got so fierce that it was not anymore in how many minutes one could memorise a deck of playing cards, but rather mere seconds. The situation was still unstable even between the first and the second Speed-cards attempt. In the end, stopping the timer at only 32 seconds, it was Orkhan Ibadov who conquered the first place, followed by Emanuele Regnani and Susanne Hippauf.
We really enjoyed the experience and thank greatly the organisers, arbiters, location providers, and everyone who made such event not only possible, but also brilliantly organised and functioning. We can’t wait for the next one!
